My Statement as an Artist

I am a living painting and the portraits I create are alive.

I paint with color, music, and time.  My palate is vivid, with colors evoking the sweetness and intensity of hard candy.  Electric blue, cherry red, soda pop orange, lemon yellow, pink, purple, bright white, and apple green.  These colors reflect the psychedelia of the 1960's and 70's.  This psychedelia pulses through my work, in shifting shapes, patterns, and textures.  My style of dress mirrors this perfectly.  I wear the colors I paint with.  At times, I wear the paint I paint with, too!

By enveloping everyday objects in paint, I use the power of color to transform them into bold and striking shapes.  Wooden boxes, matches, picture frames and wine corks become lush morsels of color that excite the senses.  Often I attach smaller, additional painted objects to the surface , lending a rhythmic texture that changes with each new subject I paint, on and around the objects themselves.
Music runs throughout my portraits.  Often my subjects are musicians themselves, well known and obscure, from the same era as my colors.  These musicians spin around my sensibilities like grooves in a record, their raw intensity of expression matching my own.  The essence of this music is in the flow of the paint and the vibrancy and energy of each subject I choose, however.  I also find it in my friends and family, children, adults and animals alike.  As living beings, this musicality is in each and every one of us, waiting to be captured.
